At first glance, one might be tempted to define Hugh's work as a safe form of art, easy on the eye, inoffensive and easily accessible. However, this would be misguided, as his works are executed with painstaking care, they are infinitely variable in colour and texture and, like Hugh, reflect his abiding sense of tension and exhilaration.
